Daytona 500

We had a big, fun weekend with friends coming in for the Daytona 500.

My brother and sister-in-law, Eddie and Cindy, came in from Houston on Friday afternoon to spend the race weekend with us.

Welcome to Florida, Eddie and Cindy

We picked them up from Orlando Airport and when we got home, Carol and Richard came over with dinner (nice!) and to play Texas Hold'em.

Around 9 pm, John Juelich (Joe's friend from high school) and his son, Gavin, arrived from Miami -- just in time to get in on the card game.  Winners were Eddie, Carol and John -- but the best hand was Cindy's four 8s.

On Saturday, Eddie, Cindy, Joe and I went to St. Augustine, the oldest city in the United States.  It's one of my favorite towns and we had a great day.

The tour train takes you all over the city --
and you can jump off, look around and
get on another train at any time

Take us to the Fountain of Youth -- haha!

Saturday evening, we met John and Gavin for dinner at the River Grille on the Tomoka River.

Sunday -- the big race day is here!  And what a huge event -- 182,000 in attendance!

We arrived early so we could watch all
the pre-race events

Brad Paisley performed the pre-race show, Martina McBride sang the National Anthem, and the Airforce Thunderbirds did a fly-over.

(bet the guys in the Blimp got quite a show!)

It was an exciting race, with a record-setting amount of lead changes and 20-year-old (and he only turned 20 the previous day!) Trevor Bayne as the youngest winner the history of the Daytona 500.

John and Gavin had to leave for home but the rest of us had dinner at Famous Philly's -- yum yum!

Monday, after a quick stop at Daytona Beach, Eddie and Cindy headed home.

We really had a great weekend -- and the most beautiful weekend weather-wise -- and were so glad Eddie and Cindy and John and Gavin could come to enjoy it with us!
