Mecum Auto Auction

We spent a great day at the Mecum Auto Auction in Kissimmee, Florida -- about an hour and a half drive from our house.  Mecum holds about a dozen auctions every year across the country and Kissimmee kicks off each year's auctions. There were a dozen large tents holding hundreds of cars to be auctioned at the 5-day event, and they were predicting over $100 million in sales.

Mecum "Muscle Cars & More"

The actual auction is held in a large auditorium, televised and with bidders calling in from all over the world -- it's a pretty impressive operation.  But you can also walk around all the tents for a close up inspection of all the cars to be auctioned.

There were hundreds of amazing pristine-condition cars -- more than I've ever seen in any one place at any one time.

1954 Corvette

1958 Corvette

1961 Corvette

The coolest muscle cars of the 60s and 70s...

1969 Camaro

1970 Shelby GT 500

1970 BOSS 302

Unusual specialty cars...

Hmmm... maybe I should bid on this one to
tool around Daytona Beach

1954 Ford Courier -- remove the top of the
trailer and it is actually a BOAT.  It sold for $36,000.

We reminisced about cars we had owned and other people we knew who had owned some of these cars...

Joe Williams' 69 Pace Car

John Juelich's "painted for a case of beer" Camaro!

Herman Johannesmeyer's GTX

Johnny's sweet '79 TA

Laughed at some of the ones we couldn't believe (1969 Plymouth Barracuda Mod-Top -- really?!?)...

Were amazed by the prices some brought...

Cheered for our favorites as they were auctioned...

And had a really great time.
