Thanksgiving Weekend in Maui

We went to Duke's Beach House in Kaanapali for a traditional Thanksgiving dinner.  It is a beautiful new restaurant located right on the ocean and on the grounds of the new Honua Kai Resort.  Duke's is named for Duke Kahanamoku who is considered the father of modern surfing.  Look him up -- he had a fascinating life.

The food was great -- turkey and all the trimmings (including Maui mashed
sweet potatoes which were purple but tasted great) with pumpkin Hula Pie for dessert -- and the weather was beautiful.

Another beautiful Maui sunset

Black Friday is certainly a lot more relaxed than on the mainland.  I had been warned that the stores got "crazy" but when I dragged poor Joe shopping, we found they certainly have a different idea of "crazy" here -- the stores opened "early" (8 am) and everyone was laughing and having fun and we got some really good deals.

When we got home, we had a Christmas Lighting Ceremony here at the condo complex.  There are lights around the pool and over the hibiscus bushes in the common areas.

It's not the Plaza but it was fun when
they turned all the lights on and everyone cheered

On Sunday, we went to our normal hangout, Sports Page, to watch the Chiefs game (and YAY! they won).  In the fourth quarter, suddenly people started flooding into the bar -- tons of people.  They were all Canadians there to watch the Grey Cup -- the CFL Superbowl.  Boy, were they an excited group!  By the time we left, there was barely room to even stand in the bar.

We really missed the family time, but ended up having a very nice holiday weekend.
